Two Little Girls

Armenia

Armenia is a source and, to a lesser extent, destination country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labour. Women and girls from Armenia are subjected to sex trafficking both within the country and internationally, primarily in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey, and to forced begging domestically.

Armenian men are subjected to forced labour in Russia and, to a lesser extent, in Turkey. Some children work in agriculture, construction, and service provision within the country. Men in rural areas with little education and children staying in child care institutions are the most vulnerable groups to trafficking.

Armenia is rated as a Tier 1 Country by the US Department of State’s 2014 Trafficking in Persons Report indicating that the Government of Armenia fully complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.

‘Children staying in child care institutions are the most vulnerable groups to trafficking.’

The Armenian Caritas Benevolent Organization

Armenian Caritas operates in the regions of Shirak, Lori and Gegharkunik and in the capital Yerevan. The organisation is actively involved in supporting development initiatives directed to the improvements in fields of social services, public health, community development, migration and trafficking, human rights, and emergency preparation.

Migration, Integration and Prevention of Trafficking

The goal of the Migration and Integration Department is to plan, implement, and coordinate initiatives to solve key issues related to migration. The Migration and Development (MD) project promotes links between migration and development in Armenia by contributing to the establishment of sustainable reintegration measures for returnees to Armenia, and by creating an effective, client-centered information system for potential Armenian immigrants.

The Human Trafficking project strives to encourage and strengthen cooperation among the countries of Eastern and Southern Europe in order to accelerate existing efforts to combat human trafficking
