ALL IS NOT LOST
6 x 11 minutes TV animated series
ALL IS NOT LOST is a new animated series created by Oscar-winning animator and director Daniel Greaves and multi-award-winning writer/producer/director Ruth Beni, based on a 10-minute short film of the same name, which, following a successful run at the 2023/24 film festival circuit, achieved recognition and awards.
The series uses comedy and visual invention to explore a very modern anxiety: the feeling that we keep repeating the same mistakes while believing we are improving. By setting its story millions of years after humanity, the series gains distance, allowing us to laugh at cycles of extinction, survival, and reinvention without pointing fingers. It’s a show about evolution, but not the heroic kind: the messy, accidental version driven by panic, habit, and stubborn hope. In a time obsessed with progress, ALL IS NOT LOST asks whether simply carrying on might be the most challenging achievement of all.
Driven by daring visual innovation, the series blends slapstick comedy with sardonic philosophical reflections on coexistence, power, and perseverance. It will be immediately accessible to young teenagers, yet layered enough for adults to see their own flaws reflected right back at them, only with more outlandish features.
Throughout the first six episodes (first episode completed), a mismatched group of randomly evolved creatures and their unlikely cosmic ally, a young asteroid named Ook, try to survive on a planet that resets itself without warning or explanation. Each episode leaps forward millions of years. Continents shift. Oceans come and go, and the laws of Physics bend. Yet, emotional baggage, jealousy, viciousness, and loyalty are eternally in the mix.
Their greatest threat is Claw, an evolving embodiment of destruction. Obsessed with acquiring fire and power, Claw returns in every era, stronger, angrier, and more inventive. Paradoxically, his aggression often accelerates change, making him both enemy and catalyst.
The story expands beyond Earth. Ook’s Mum intervenes, the asteroid Council, having debated the disappointing state of life on the planet, dispatches an assortment of new elements, as yet unknown on Earth, triggering the most radical evolutionary shift yet.
Hovering above it all is an unseen but ever-present narrator: dry, occasionally exasperated, a residual intelligence formed from countless past observers, human, artificial, cosmic, all merged into a single bemused consciousness.
In future seasons, the scope widens to other planets, where existence and extinction unfold repeatedly, and where the development of consciousness, soul, and wisdom endlessly struggle against the same limitation: time.
